Don’t tell until you listen.

Ask caring, thoughtful (never “loaded”) questions. LISTEN for the response. Listen with your ears. Listen with your eyes. OBSERVE body language. Make eye contact. (Make sure your face is communicating love and concern—not judgement or anger and your body language is open and relaxed.)

Listen before you tell. Seek to understand before being understood. Communicate to your children their voices matter.
