There is nothing in this world quite like the pain a parent feels when their child is living “this” lifestyle…. It is a solitary sorrow. A grief we often bear alone in a world which cannot understand and refuses to see or validate. [Psalm 31:9]
We learn to move on with our lives in the light of day. We learn to breathe again, to laugh again, to get back to the tasks at hand again. But in the quiet of the night, the pain will not be ignored…or silenced…or stilled. [Psalm 6:6]
On the surface, in the light of day, we accept with bravery and the strength of parental love, that which we cannot change. We go on as though all is fine and right and good in our life—and much of it is. But at night, in the dark, we plead again with our Great God who is the only One who CAN change the seemingly unchangeable. We press into Him, melting into His arms as little lost children ourselves, seeking the strong arms of our Abba Father who understands even more than we do, who catches our tears even as they mingle with His own. This Father—He sees, He knows, He understands—and He not only validates our pain but He enters into it with us, grieving with us…. In the still, quiet hours of the night He ministers to our aching hearts and our restless minds. He cradles us and carries us as we drift again into peaceful slumber, knowing He’s got this, and He’s got them….. [Psalm 34:15; Matthew 19:26; Romans 8:15; Psalm 56:8; Isaiah 63:9; Isaiah 40:11]
Morning comes again, as it does each day. We rise with the sun and get on with the tasks before us—the living, the breathing, the carrying on. We live in the acceptance of what we cannot change—with steely love and determination of mind and spirit—trusting and hoping against hope in Him who loves our children far more than even we do…. The One who holds them in the palms of His nail-scarred hands and in the kindness of His Sovereign will; the One who will never let them go…. In Him is our hope…our strength…our comfort…our all…. [Proverbs 3:5-6; 2 Corinthians 1:3; 1 John 2:1; John 6:39; Isaiah 49:16; Isaiah 41:13; Romans 4:18]
