As parents, the love we have for our children is one of the deepest on the planet. In fact, it is a model of God’s love for us. Our love for our kids mirrors His in a beautiful way. However, this kind of love hurts.
Haven’t you experienced it already? That deep heartbreak for your child, or because of something he or she has said, or done, or been through? The hurt we feel as parents, is, at times, equal to the love we have for them. And yet, no amount of pain can ever make us quit on them. That may well be the defining characteristic of a parent’s love. No matter how much this love hurts, we keep going.
God feels the same way about us.
As we love our LGBTQ children—wherever they are on their journey—we have an amazing opportunity to press into the love our Heavenly Father has for us. He is there for us (and for our children) in a way that defies words or explanation—through all the hurt, uncertainty, loss, and fear. We find rest in the knowledge that He’s got them and He will never let go. That trust–and hope–is a soothing balm for our hearts.
Trust the Father heart of God. Press into Him. Find rest and peace in Him. Your Abba Daddy’s got you, and He will never let you go.
